The Provincial Directorate of Post-Primary and Secondary Education (DPEPS) of Zondoma, in partnership with the Association Monde Rural (AMR), organized a public conference on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at the private high school Saint Henri de Osso in Gourcy. The discussions focused on civics and citizenship.

On Wednesday, October 9, 2024, the private high school Saint Henri de Osso de Gourcy hosted a public conference organized by the Provincial Directorate of Post-Primary and Secondary Education (DPEPS) of Zondoma.

This conference, which brought together all the students from post-primary and secondary schools in the commune of Gourcy, focused on civics and citizenship.

For the provincial director of post-primary and secondary education of Zondoma, Saïdou Ouédraogo, this theme was chosen with the aim of raising awareness among young schoolchildren so that they become responsible citizens who love and develop their country.

“This conference is part of a series of activities that our management initiated
as part of the second phase of the national days of patriotic commitment and citizen participation, launched by the government of Burkina Faso on October 2,” recalled the provincial director, who congratulated the students for their active participation in the discussions.

The conference was hosted by Salif Sawadogo, head of the ‘Local Governance and Decentralization’ department within the Association Monde Rural (AMR).

Through direct exchanges with young people, Mr. Sawadogo, surrounded by a team from the DPEPS, returned to the notions of civic-mindedness, citizenship, patriotism, as well as the rights and duties of citizens.

He also discussed, using examples, the institutions of the Republic and love of country.

Like Relwendé Akil Amir Soro, a 6th grade student at Saint Henri de Osso high school, the participants committed, among other things, to respecting the country’s laws and institutions.

In addition to this conference, a raising of colors at the Niességa high school, a sanitation day at the Gourc
y market and a fundraiser in the province’s establishments are among the activities planned by the DPEPS during this second phase of the national days of patriotic commitment and citizen participation, which will be held from October 2 to 16, 2024 under the theme: “For a strong and sovereign nation, let us not betray our homeland!”
