As part of phase 2 of the Patriotic Commitment and Citizen Participation Days (JEPPC), teachers and thousands of students from public and private primary schools in Yatenga demonstrated their patriotic spirit by raising 5,121,271 FCFA for the Patriotic Support Fund. The check presentation ceremony was chaired by Issouf Ouédraogo, Governor of the Northern Region.

On this morning of Thursday, October 24, 2024, education officials, students, educational supervisors, teachers, parents of students, and the constituted bodies of the province gathered for a noble cause within the premises of the public primary school block of “Souli” in sector 01 of Ouahigouya.

It was 7:30 a.m. when the school children, gathered around the flag, sang the national anthem in the Mooré language and proceeded to raise the colours. The event that brought together the educational community was the presentation of the financial contribution of thousands of students for the peace effort.

A first collection of 232,000 FCFA from teachers
in the basic education district of Ouahigouya 2, and another of 4,889,271 FCFA from students in public and private primary schools, for a total of 5,121,271 FCFA, were given to the regional authority for the benefit of the Patriotic Support Fund.

Salam Ouédraogo, provincial director of Preschool, Primary and Non-Formal Education of Yatenga (DPEPPNF), justified the fundraising initiative, which was intended to be voluntary.

Indeed, Mr. Ouédraogo indicated that the main objective was to give a practical lesson in patriotic commitment to children, to teach them that the development of Faso depends on the commitment and individual and collective sacrifices of its sons.

The DPEPPNF took the opportunity of this gathering to express the gratitude of the educational community to the defense and security forces for all the assistance received in favor of the reopening and securing of around a hundred schools last school year, and around sixty this year 2024-2025, while waiting for others.

“I pay a vibrant tribute
to the educational community of Yatenga, standing as one despite adversity, to give hope to our children through education,” Salam Ouédraogo proudly said.

After receiving the check, Issouf Ouédraogo, Governor of the Northern Region, welcomed the initiative of the DPEPPNF of Yatenga. He congratulated all education stakeholders and particularly the students of Yatenga for having agreed to sacrifice themselves financially to support their country.

“Your gesture is proof that you are proud to be Burkinabe and that you are aware that the security and development of Burkina Faso also depend on you. I invite all education stakeholders to continue in this highly patriotic spirit,” Issouf Ouédraogo told the students.
