The population of the city of Sebba and internally displaced persons from other municipalities in the province, showed on Saturday their gratitude to the Combatting Forces for the sacrifices made on a daily basis. On the occasion, the leader of the detachment was presented with the white turban, an act of high esteem, as this cloth is only worn by Fulani leaders.

On the morning of Saturday March 23, 2024, as if by surprise, religious people, customary people, women, young people from the town of Sebba and internally displaced people from other localities in the province of Yagha, headed towards the camp military of the city.

Very quickly, tents were set up and chairs were properly installed, giving the impression of a long-prepared ceremony.

The head of the detachment and his staff are invited to join the day’s visitors.

For the organizers, since the arrival of this team in the city, people have felt more and more secure.

The town of Sebba was under blockade for more than a year. Before, you couldn’t go
a mile out of town for fear of being kidnapped or even killed by terrorists.

Today, given the work done by the predecessors and the continued securing of the city by the new team of the detachment, the populations wanted to show their satisfaction by going to the VDP headquarters, a few meters from the camp.

As a reminder, with this team, the patrols made it possible to get hold of terrorists on the Sebba-Solhan axis. Today, we can afford to fetch water, firewood, garden and fish in the pond.

For the ceremony itself, words of thanks were spoken by certain leaders, particularly religious and customary ones, and a symbolic presentation of a white turban to the leader of the detachment, marking a very strong sign for the population.

The white turban is worn by the Fulani chiefs of the province. This means that this act shows all the recognition and all the respect that this population has towards the FDS and the VDP.

It is also an opportunity to raise awareness of the need to continue actions to secure the
city for the well-being of the population.

Before wearing the white turban on the head of the detachment commander, one of the leaders said: ‘This white turban is worn by Fulani chiefs, you are a Bobo. This does not mean that you are the leader of the Fulani. Between the Fulani and the Bobo, you know who is chief. You, your team and your hierarchy deserve all the credit. We ask you for even more security and at the same time the opening of the national road to allow this population to have regular land supplies.’

It is through these words of thanks and the strong act of wearing the turban on the head of the detachment leader that the ceremony ended, giving a considerable mark of trust between the FDS/VDP and the populations.
