The Sahel region wants to equip itself with a futuristic museum worthy of its richness and cultural diversity, which will be a real space for the transmission of cultural values, intellectual and interreligious dialogue, of learning and training for life, the AIB learned.

The governorate of the Sahel region organized in Dori, on Tuesday June 11, 2024, a day of consultation of the driving forces with a view to determining in a consensual manner the format and the location of the future regional museum to be created. This consultation framework responds to an instruction from the Minister of State, Minister of Communication, Culture, Arts and Tourism, Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo.

According to Wulfran Bamas, high commissioner of the Séno province, representing the governor of the Sahel, Burkina Faso is a country with old traditions, which, after its accession to independence, undertook several actions aimed at safeguarding and promoting its cultural heritage. .

Listening to Mr. Bamas, the country is cur
rently experiencing the most difficult times in its history, namely insecurity due to terrorism, the unfortunate consequences of which are numerous in all areas of life.

And the High Commissioner added that the cultural sector pays the heaviest price in the Sahel region, hence the need to preserve the objects of art, musical instruments and statuettes still preserved within the communities.

This is why, according to him, it is imperative to provide the Sahel region with a museum commensurate with its richness and cultural diversity, which will be a real space for the transmission of cultural values, intellectual and interreligious dialogue, learning and training for life.

In order to be able to give their opinions on the creation of such an infrastructure, participants were entitled to two communications on cultural heritage as a lever for social well-being and the mapping of museums in Burkina Faso.

At the end of these communications, the participants proposed the town of Dori, capital of the Séno provin
ce and the Sahel region, as the site for the future museum complex, for the objective reasons of its security, its accessibility and its strong urbanization.

They wanted it to be a general museum whose collection theme relates to all the communities in the region, an accessible and inclusive institution, attractive and with multiple offerings.
