The Permanent Secretariat of the Emergency Relief and Rehabilitation Council (SP/CONASUR) with the financial support of the project to strengthen climate resilience in Burkina Faso and the hydromet project organized from October 22 to 24, 2024 in Leo, a workshop to develop a contingency plan for the commune of Leo.
According to the organizers, the development of a contingency plan for the benefit of the commune of Léo is part of the implementation of the project to strengthen climate resilience in Burkina Faso (hydromet project).
This document constitutes a benchmark for the coordination and management of disasters and humanitarian crises at the local level.
The objective of this workshop is to enable the urban municipality of Léo to have a contingency plan.
For the representative of the prefect of the department of Léo, Afred Somé, the development of a contingency plan in the commune of Léo aims to contribute to strengthening the resilience of the populations.
Mr. Somé welcomed the holding of this work
shop, which aims to provide a framework for fruitful exchanges and sharing of experiences.
He expressed his gratitude to SP/CONASUR for its constant support in the implementation of activities for the benefit of citizens.
He also made special mention of the Hydomet project for its interest in the management of disasters and humanitarian crises in Burkina Faso on the one hand and for its technical and financial support for the process of developing this contingency plan on the other hand.
The head of the Sp/Conasur mission, Yacouba Yago, explained that this workshop constitutes a first step in a process which includes, among other things, the phase of collecting additional data, the drafting of the municipal contingency plan, its validation and its finalization.
For 72 hours, participants strengthened their skills in the process of developing the contingency plan.
In addition, they were also trained on the use of data collection tools in the field through a presentation by the activity coordinator, Yacoub
a Yago.
The work took place in groups and in plenary under the supervision of Yacouba Yago of SP/CONASUR and his team.
The discussions focused on the analysis of the major risks of the municipality, the response capacities, the scenarios and the preparation hypothesis, the prevention actions, preparation and management of the emergency phase and the coordination of interventions.
