The statutory members of the Provincial Consultation Framework (CCP) of Sissili met in ordinary session on Tuesday June 11, 2024 in Léo. This meeting, the first of its kind of the year and chaired by the secretary general of the province, Baowindsida Bingo, allowed members to have an overview of the activities of the Association for the Protection of the Environment and Development rural (APEDR).

The construction of the development plan cannot be done without the participation of all stakeholders. It is with this in mind that this space for dialogue was initiated on Tuesday June 11, 2024 in Léo.

The Association for the Protection of the Environment and Rural Development (APEDR) took the opportunity to present to the members of the Sissili Provincial Consultation Framework (CCP) its activities, notably the ‘Improved three-stone hearth’ project.

According to the president of APEDR, Sayouba Bonkoungou, the ‘Three stone hearth (F3PA)’ project consists of reducing the wood consumption of households in rural are
as through the dissemination of more wood-saving technology.

‘This project aims to extend the dissemination of improved three-stone stove technology in banco to 3,0000 households, in 9 municipalities in the Passoré province, to contribute to mitigating the effects of climate change and to reduce poverty among rural households,’ he explained.

Bonkoungou specified that for the year 2024, APEDR intends to cover 10 villages in the commune of Léo, develop beekeeping in 10 villages and intensify the establishment of processing units for non-wood forest products (NTFP) in 20. villages.

‘We have already been able to reach 5 villages in the commune of Léo, through training women on the construction and use of improved three-stone stoves,’ he suggested.

The head doctor of the Léo health district, Dr Aboubacary Abdou, presented the food and nutritional situation in the province.

According to Dr Aboubacary, malnutrition is a public health problem notwithstanding the different strategies and multi-sectoral interventi
ons and the support of technical and financial partners.

According to him, the Sissili province ranks 2nd nationally in terms of malnutrition, after Balé according to the latest nutritional surveys.

‘However, screening and treatment activities are effective in all health facilities in the district,’ he indicated.

Dr Aboubacary noted that the massive arrival of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in recent years could partly justify this surge in cases of malnutrition.

The head of the Sissili provincial plant production department, Alassane Sawadogo, took stock of the province’s 2023-2024 dry agricultural campaign.

He underlined that during this dry campaign 670 hectares were sown in market gardening, corn and rice in the province for an average yield of nearly 9730kg/ha, all speculations combined.

‘The total production of speculation is estimated at nearly 235,950 tonnes,’ he maintained.

For Mr. Sawadogo, the dry campaign was satisfactory. The difficulties linked to its implementation boil down to, amo
ng other things, the drying up of water points, the high cost of equipment/materials and agricultural inputs.

‘The construction of new water points and the maintenance of existing water points could boost market gardening production in the province,’ he reassured.

Participants in the meeting also had an overview of the security situation in the province, through a presentation made by the Provincial Director of the National Police (DPPN) of Sissili, Lassané Nabollé.
