American President Joe Biden congratulated Bassirou Diomaye Faye on his election, at the same time sending his ‘warmest wishes to the Senegalese people, who have demonstrated that the right to vote’ remains the threshold of freedom of democracy”.
”I congratulate Bassirou Diomaye Faye on his election as the next president of the Republic of Senegal. I send my warmest wishes to the Senegalese people, who have demonstrated that the right to vote – and the fact that this vote is taken into account – remains the threshold of freedom of democracy,” said Mr. Biden, whose congratulatory message was transcribed on the X account of the American embassy in Dakar.
He stressed that ”for more than six decades, Senegal and the United States have deepened their partnership, notably by uniting to fight terrorism, tackle food insecurity, combat the climate crisis, fight against corruption and ensure that democracy benefits all of our citizens.
‘In the years to come, I look forward to further strengthening these ties, as
we continue to work together to forge a more peaceful and prosperous future for all,’ he concluded.
