Attempts by some unfriendly countries to allow the use of F-16 aircraft are a major security issue for Russia, which is why the Russian armed forces will shoot them down if these fighter jets fly over Ukrainian territory, said Konstantin Gavrilov, head of the Russian delegation to the Vienna talks on military security and arms control.
According to him, unfriendly countries have already been warned of the seriousness of this issue. ‘Nevertheless, they insist, in Holland, [as well as] the Danish ‘superheroes’, on the fact that ‘we authorize the use of F-16 on the entire territory of Russia’, recalled the head of the delegation in a comment addressed to the media Izvestia.
Earlier, Acting Dutch Defense Minister Kajsa Ollongren said that the Netherlands intends to transfer 24 F-16 fighters to Ukraine, which could be used for strikes against targets located on the Russian territory. According to her, the Netherlands maintains the same principle for all the equipment it transfers to kyiv: once the weapons are ha
nded over to the Ukrainians, the latter can use them on their own.
