The President of the special delegation (PDS) of the commune of Dédougou, Dieudonné Tougfo, invited on Friday, October 18, 2024, in a press release, the population to respect the highway code, in order to avoid road accidents which are recurrent in the city and often fatal.

The city of Dédougou has recently experienced numerous road accidents caused by non-compliance with the highway code, with serious and often fatal consequences.

This situation led the municipal authorities to alert the population through a press release on Friday, October 18, 2024, despite multiple awareness campaigns, with a view to taking repression.

In the document, the President of the special delegation (PDS) of the commune of Dédougou, Dieudonné Tougfo, specified that the phenomenon of speeding in the city is growing, due to the use of high-powered vehicles.

Also, he said, in order to protect the physical integrity of the valiant populations, the municipal police have been instructed to proceed with the confiscation of the vehi
cles of people who are caught speeding, for a minimum period of one week for the first seizure before the payment of any fine.

“In the event of a repeat offence, the duration of the confiscation will be doubled,” the same source maintains.

The PDS has invested the municipal police of Dédougou to increase awareness and repression actions in order to avoid numerous accidents in the city of Dédougou, especially during these back-to-school periods when great caution must be exercised in traffic.

Dieudonné Tougfo, pointed out that ambulances, firefighter vehicles and official processions are not affected by this press release.

“In the event of obstruction of the execution of this measure by the municipal police, the procedures provided for in the texts will be initiated against the perpetrators,” he added.

According to him, the difficult security situation in the Boucle du Mouhoun region has led to a massive displacement of populations towards large centres such as Dédougou.

This is why, according to Mr. Tou
gfo, the various arteries of the city experience heavy traffic, which requires awareness and great caution in traffic in order to avoid accidents.

Every citizen of the city of Dédougou is called upon to strictly respect the highway code, hence the call from the first authorities of the commune to show patriotism in traffic in order to protect their lives and those of others.

According to the technicians in charge of transport and mobility, in order to promote coherent, accident-free traffic in cities, the “highway code” or “the language of the road” was created, clear, concise and universal for all those who use the road.

They explained that road signs are subdivided into four types, namely vertical signs, horizontal signs, super-signaling provided by the police, the gendarmerie or any other person, and luminous signs, which are traffic lights.
