Ouagadougou: On June 18 and 19, Russian President Vladimir Putin will pay a friendly state visit to North Korea, the Kremlin press service reports.

‘At the invitation of Chairman of the State Affairs Committee of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea Kim Jong-un, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin will pay a friendly state visit on June 18-19 2024,’ the statement said.

In September 2023, Kim Jong-un traveled to Russia, where he met Putin at the Vostochny cosmodrome. On this occasion, Kim Jong-un invited his Russian counterpart to visit his country. The invitation was accepted.

The only time Putin visited North Korea’s capital, Pyongyang, was in July 2000, two months after his presidential inauguration. He then discussed bilateral and international issues with the country’s then leader, Kim Jong-il, Kim Jong-un’s father.
