Peace efforts in Niger: Levies on telephone and internet charges are in effect this January 25

The systematic deduction measure of 10 F on all calls and telephone subscriptions came into force this Thursday in Niger, to fund the Solidarity Fund for the Safeguarding of the Homeland ( FSSP).

According to the Nigerien press agency (ANP) which provides the information, the vice-president of the Solidarity Fund for the Safeguarding of the Homeland, Amadou Brah warned Nigeriens during a press briefing yesterday Wednesday at Mahmat Gandhi Conference Center in Niamey.

The meeting ‘mainly focused on article 3 of point 9 of this law concerning deductions of 10 f on calls and subscriptions to voice and internet packages through the mobile telephone companies Airtel, Moov, Niger telecom, Zamani’ , reports the ANP.

‘On calls, the deduction of 10 F will be made from 12 F on the credit available to the customer on their main account, and on subscriptions to internet packages, the deductions will be applied to all subscriptions greater than 200 F’ , explains Mr. Brah, cited from the same source.

The Nigerien auth
orities reminded their compatriot that in 100 days of collection through the deductions agreed, the Fund collected less than 20 million from 50,000 Nigerien members. They then adopted the compulsory levy, taking inspiration from other countries in the Alliance of Sahel States, notably Burkina Faso.

The press conference was held in the presence of the general directors of telephone companies operating in Niger, concludes the ANP.
