Nigerien head of government intends to visit Russia (media)


Ouagadougou: Nigerien Prime Minister Ali Lamine Zeine, accompanied by the ministers of Defense, Oil, Sports, Commerce and others, began a trip on Monday during which they intending to travel to Russia, Iran, Serbia and Turkey, Mondafrique reported, citing a government source.

As indicated, the new Nigerien authorities intend to diversify partnerships in the fields of defense, agri-food, energy, oil and health equipment.

On July 26, a group of soldiers from the Presidential Guard mutinied and announced the dismissal of Nigerien President Mohamed Bazoum. The National Council for the Safeguarding of the Homeland, led by Presidential Guard Commander Abdourahamane Tchiani, was created to govern the country.

On September 24, 2023, French President Emmanuel Macron announced the withdrawal of the ambassador and several diplomats from Niamey at the request of Niger having denounced important agreements with France

Around 1,400 French soldiers were deployed there: some 1,000 soldiers in the capital and around 400 o
thers in the west of the country left Niger on December 22, the very last ones.

Since the advent of General Tiani in July 2024, Niger has followed a logic of relying first on its own forces, on its neighbors in the Alliance of Sahel States to combat terrorism and defend its sovereignty, while opening up to new strategic partners
