Ouagadougou: 10,000 young Nigeriens will be recruited this year 2024 for the benefit of the Ministry of National Defense in order to strengthen the strength of the Nigerien Armed Forces, the country’s military authorities announced on Tuesday in Niamey, indicates the Nigerian press agency.

‘For the year 2024, 10,000 young Nigeriens of both sexes will be recruited, in two waves of five thousand recruits each.’ revealed the Director of Strategic Studies at the Ministry of National Defense of Niger, Colonel Major Mounkaila Sofiani, speaking during a conference in Niamey.

According to him, the strength of the Nigerien army will be increased annually to reach 100,000 men by 2030

‘Since the events of July 26, 2023 marking the coming to power of the National Council for the Protection of the Fatherland (CNSP) with its strategic vision of making Niger a free and sovereign country, a political-diplomatic crisis was born between Niger and certain partners who openly threaten it with destabilization,’ recalled Colone
l-Major Sofiani.

These combined threats against Niger have increased the needs to defend the country and secure populations, strategic corridors and socio-economic activities; from his point of view.

‘It is in view of the security situation cited above that Niger has embarked on a policy of increasing the strength of its Military Forces through an ambitious recruitment policy,’ explained Colonel Major Mounkaila Sofiani.

The recruitment of these young soldiers is planned for next July. In addition to the Niger armed forces, the recruits will also serve within the Protection and Development Forces Command (CFPD).

Niger is currently engaged in a fight against terrorism and against the neo-colonialist domination which is hampering its development, according to the country’s authorities.
