Niger will discuss the restoration of its security with the African Union


The president of the transition of Niger, General Abdourahamane Tchiani will meet the current president of the African Union Azali Assoumani in January 2024 to discuss the security situation in Niger, AIB learned in an AU press release , consulted on January 9, 2024.

In a press release from the African Union (AU) published on January 3, 2024, the Head of State of Niger, General Abdourahamane Tchiani and the President of the AU, Comorian President Azali Assoumani agreed to meet in January 2024 for exchanges in favor of the restoration of peace, security, stability and appeasement in the Sahel, during a telephone interview.

The press release reports that after the exchange of greetings, on the occasion of the New Year 2024, the two Heads of State discussed several subjects of common interest, and in particular the efforts made by Niger to face terrorist threats.

After the coup d’état in Niger at the end of July 2023, the African Union suspended the country from its institutions on August 14, 2023.
