Multilateral cooperation: the FAO Representative at the end of his mission in Burkina Faso with the head of Burkinabe diplomacy

Ouagadougou: The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and Burkinabè Abroad, Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré, received on the afternoon of Tuesday March 19, Mr. Dauda Sau, Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) at the end of its mission in Burkina Faso.

After nearly five years spent in the land of honest men and admitted to asserting his retirement rights, the FAO Resident Representative came to say goodbye to the head of Burkinabe diplomacy, and to discuss with him the actions carried out by his structure in tandem with the Burkinabè government, for the development of the rural sector, through supporting populations for their resilience, especially in a context of combating insecurity.

‘Our humanitarian assistance to lift populations and support them in producing food needs and earning income amounts to more than five hundred thousand people per year. This is a very remarkable contribution,’ said Mr. Dauda Sau.

is structure also worked with the Burkinabè authorities in the sense of not forgetting the aspect of development.

Also, a structuring investment plan in the agri-food sector to achieve food sovereignty was put in place by the two parties.

In the area of resource mobilization, FAO contributed significantly by mobilizing 87.5 percent of the $93 million, or more than 56 billion CFA francs, targeted on behalf of the Country Promotion Framework.

‘We are in the process of finalizing the interim Country promotion framework 2023-2025, with a budget of $57 million, or more than 34 billion CFA francs, and a quarter of these resources have already been mobilized. In addition, new projects will be launched soon,’ maintains the FAO representative.

He said he was leaving satisfied with his mission in Burkina Faso, with the hope that this country would regain peace and stability.

For his part, Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré wished a beautiful and peaceful retirement to the FAO representative, while expressing the gratitude
of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and Burkinabè Abroad for the good collaboration with this UN institution.

A collaboration that he would like to see continue through actions to strengthen the food and nutritional security of the Burkinabè populations.
