Argentina national football team striker Lionel Messi has not yet decided whether he will participate in the 2026 World Cup. He is quoted by journalist Fabrizio Romano on his X page.

In June 2023, Messi announced that he had no plans to participate in the next World Cup.

‘It will depend on my physical condition,’ Messi said. Time flies, but there is still some time left, and I don’t know how things will be then. Age is also a reality, even if it’s just a number. The matches I play now are not the same as the ones I played in Europe every three days, whether in the Champions League or in the league in France or Spain. But it depends on how I feel and how I feel with my teammates, whether I’m on the same level or not, we’ll see. »

Aged 36, Messi played for Barça from 2003 to 2021. With this club, the Argentine striker was ten times Spanish champion, seven times winner of the Spanish Cup, eight times of the Super Cup of Spain, has won the Champions League four times, the UEFA Super Cup three times and the FI
FA Club World Cup three times. From 2021 to 2023, the Argentine played for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), winning the French championship twice and he was the winner of the country’s Super Cup. He currently plays for American club Inter Miami. In 2023, Messi received the Ballon d’Or for the eighth time, the prize awarded to the best player of the year.

The 2026 World Cup will take place in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
