Ouagadougou: The Zak La yilguemdé Association (AZLY) organized, Thursday, a planting session of 150 trees in public places and homes in Manga (Zoundwéogo province) to green them, occasion of its tree week.

In Manga, capital of the Zoundwéogo province, members of AZLY, an association which works in sustainable development and the environment, organized a planting activity of several varieties of trees, in the presence of government authorities and administrative.

Several public places and citizens’ homes hosted this reforestation session which cost the association, from its own funds, the sum of 750,000 CFA francs, indicated AZLY communications manager, Sarah Ouédraogo.

‘ We noticed that at the CSPS in sector 5 here, there are not enough trees where those accompanying patients can rest. And that’s how we decided to do reforestation with species like the bombardier and the yellow flamboyant to alleviate the situation ,’ she explained.

‘ We also planted trees alongside the tracks at sector 4. And these are s
pecies like the bombardier, the yellow flamboyant, the caïlcedrat and the grape tree that we used at this level. There are other species of fruit trees such as the mango tree, the guava tree and the lemon tree that the members of the association will also plant at home ,’ continued the AZLY communications manager.

For the reforestation operation undertaken in Manga, 150 trees in total will be planted by the association which has also provided reinforced grids for their protection.

Kalssin Baloum Naaba, member of COGES of CSPS of sector 5, while welcoming the action of AZLY, promised to properly maintain the trees received.

‘This reforestation is a relief for the users of the CSPS because in a few years all those who frequent the place will be able to have shade in which to rest and the COGES will ensure that the trees grow well , ‘ confided the Kalssin Baloum Naaba.

For the High Commissioner of Zoundwéogo, Julien Ouédraogo, AZLY’s choice to regreen public places and homes is a citizen act which is in line
with the government’s vision of making popular commitment to reforestation a reality with a view to counter desertification.

‘AZLY has just given concrete expression to the slogan given to the populations of the Center-South and therefore the province of Zoundwéogo, after the launch, at the local level, of Arbor Day, during which it was asked to populations to plant useful to cope with climate change,’ declared the provincial authority.

The reforestation of public places and homes undertaken by AZLY is part of the activities on the Tree Week program that the association has established to contribute to the protection of the environment and the fight against desertification.

‘We also hosted a radio program on the issues of reforestatio
n and through this we hope to encourage people’s commitment to planting trees in order to protect themselves from the perverse effects of climate change,’ she also said. .

Sarah Ouédraogo announced, moreover, that the result of these various actions will subsequently be the subject of monitoring and evaluation to correct the inadequacies during the next editions of the AZLY tree week.
