Ouagadougou: Hadja Mariam Mandé, mother of the famous late resistance fighter Ladji Yôrô, thanked the people of Burkina Faso on Saturday for the support her family received and urged them to end the war against terrorists.

December 23, 2021 – December 23, 2023, it has been two years since the Volunteer for the Defense of the Fatherland (VDP), Ladji Yôrô, fell under the murderous bullets of unidentified armed men, with more than 40 fellow fighters.

On this anniversary, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), notably the Movement of Young Engaged Patriots, the Northern Patriots Movement and the Bayiri Movement, organized a day of tribute on Saturday, December 23 in Ouahigouya.

Through moments of contemplation, these CSOs paid a vibrant tribute to Soumaila Ganamé, known as Ladji Yoro. Other activities marked this day of tribute, such as tree planting, a friendly football match and a blood donation.

According to the Secretary General of the Bayiri Movement, Seydou Abass Ouédraogo, this ceremony aims to pay vibran
t tribute to all the fighters, and particularly to Ladji Yôrô, who fell with arms in hand in defense of the homeland. He emphasizes that their sacrifices will not go in vain.

‘We are very proud to recognize today that the fight that Ladji led was that of all Burkinabè people. Since his death, the sons and daughters of Burkina have never stopped expressing their compassion to us. To the transitional authorities, all our blessings are with them. We give them our full support to end the war,’ said Ladji Yoro’s mother, Hadjia Mariam Mandé.

As a reminder, it was on December 23, 2021 that Ladji Yôrô and more than 40 other VDP, while escorting a food supply convoy for the town of Titao, lost their lives in You in an ambush set by armed terrorist groups.
