A team from the provincial directorate of Animal and Fisheries Resources of Kourittenga, proceeded, on the morning of Thursday, October 24, 2024, to the vaccination of 500 cattle and goats in Zaogo Center, a village in the commune of Koupéla. This activity is part of the national animal vaccination campaign, initiated by the government.

Launched on October 11, agents of the Provincial Directorate of Animal and Fisheries Resources of Kourittenga vaccinated 500 cattle and goats in Zaogo Center, on the occasion of the national animal vaccination campaign.

The campaign is supported by the Livestock Resilience and Competitiveness Project (PRECEL).

A member of the Zaogo Village Development Committee (CVD), Amado Balma, said that the government’s initiative is to be welcomed because it will help breeders.

‘Livestock farming can help reduce poverty. We are very happy with the government and we ask God to accompany them in their work so that he can help us,’ Mr. Zaogo said.

According to the technical advisor to
the Minister Delegate in charge of animal resources, Dr Jean Marie Batiébo, encouraged breeders to successfully vaccinate animals.

He also specified that for the vaccination campaign, vaccines against peste des petits ruminants (PPR), rabies and anthrax are free.

“Others have been subsidised by the State, for example those for the fight against contagious bovine pleuropneumonia, foot-and-mouth disease, Newcastle disease and fowl pox,” added the technical adviser.

Dr Jean Marie Batiébo, positively appreciated the work and praised the actors, namely the customary chiefs, the managers, the agents of the livestock service and the breeders who gave themselves for the success of the campaign.

The Head of the Veterinary Service of Koupéla, Mayir Da, invited breeders to participate fully in the campaign.

“I think there is a craze here in Zaogo-Centre. We have already visited three sites but it is clear that the breeders are really interested. It is true that others are distant but we are committed and remain ava
ilable, so everyone will be satisfied,” he said.

Mayir Da, deplored the fact that parents send their children instead of coming themselves with the animals for vaccination.

“However, it is during vaccination sessions that we take the opportunity to raise awareness among people about the importance of the campaign, the vaccine and many others. The campaign is free so breeders must take it seriously so that we can support each other,” explained the Head of the Veterinary Service of Koupéla.

The national animal vaccination campaign, which was launched on October 11, will run until December 31, 2024 throughout the country.
