The High Commissioner of the Kourittenga province, Moctar Ilboudo, visited, on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, the rice-growing lowland of the village of Dassoui in the commune of Dialguaye, Kourittenga province, of approximately 20 ha, developed by the Belgian Development Agency (ENABEL).

The rice-growing lowland, approximately 20 hectares in size, was developed by the Belgian Development Agency (ENABEL) in the village of Dassoui, commune of Dialguaye, in the province of Kourittenga, for the benefit of the population.

It is operated by 258 producers including 105 women and 20 internally displaced persons.

The initiative aims to support the Agropastoral and Fisheries Offensive, which is a national development strategy to guarantee sustainable food security.

“The objective of ENABEL is to align with the priorities and orientations given by the central State. ENABEL has an integrated territorial approach which aims to involve, co-create and collaborate with the actors,” said the agricultural value chain proje
ct manager at Enabel, Bassoubam Kaboré.

For him, from the design stage, all stakeholders are involved in order to provide an appropriate response to the beneficiary community.

“We have seen the results and the communities are satisfied. We believe that the results targeted during this campaign are achieved with the support of regional, provincial and departmental authorities,” he added.

Developed during this year 2024, a total production estimated at 90 tonnes of rice is expected from the rice lowland for this agricultural campaign.

According to the project manager, his organization plans to strengthen this achievement in the coming years through land security, the construction of dikes, drilling for market gardening and many others.

“We want peaceful coexistence between farmers, farmers and breeders,” said Bassoubam Kaboré.

The Village Development Advisor (CVD) of Dassoui, Adama Oubda, indicated that the site was no longer exploited because of the tension between the populations but thanks to ENABEL an
d the commitment of everyone, the activities have resumed.

“We express our gratitude to ENABEL who developed the site for us and supported us with seeds and fertilizers. We ask the populations for more collaboration in order to benefit from the fruits of the project,” explained Mr. Oubda.

The High Commissioner of the Kourittenga province, Moctar Ilboudo, congratulated ENABEL for the initiative and invited the populations to more commitment and collaboration for the lasting success of the activities carried out on the site.

“This activity meets the current vision of our government, namely the agro-pastoral and fisheries offensive which aims to achieve food security and which will also create decent jobs for our youth. We were able to discuss the prospects for securing land in the lowlands, which is very important to us and also to the producers of Dassoui who confirmed their support,” said the high commissioner.

The area of ??the developed site is 20 hectares, divided into 320 plots, i.e. an average area o
f ??0.0625 ha per producer.
