Ouagadougou: The agricultural mechanization brigades plowed free of charge an area of 20 hectares of rice-growing lowlands for the benefit of people displaced by terrorism and then resettled, in Kongoussi, a locality located 100 km to the north of Ouagadougou, AIB learned from the Ministry of Agriculture.

According to the communications services of the Ministry of Agriculture, the beneficiaries of this state support also received improved rice seeds as well as fertilizer, the value of which was not mentioned.

‘The Governor (of the Center-South), Zoewendmanego Ouédraogo, was able to see the effectiveness of free plowing for the benefit of resettled IDPs,’ specifies the source.

Governor Ouédraogo especially praised the resilience of the resettled people, inviting them to rigorously follow the technical production itineraries recommended by the management staff.

The IDPs expressed relief and wish to continue production during the dry season.

The regional director in charge of Agriculture in the region, Serg
e Igor Birba, indicated that plowing work will continue to satisfy as many IDPs and farmers as possible.

‘In this region, the development of 840 hectares was planned. To date we are at 907 hectares. Regarding the site of resettled IDPs, plowing will continue to account for a larger number,’ said Mr. Birba.

As part of the agropastoral and fisheries offensive, the Burkinabe government has deployed hundreds across the country for this agricultural season to help producers sow larger areas in order to sustainably fill the country’s chronic food deficits.
