Faced with “the emergence of dangerous deviations”, the Federation of Islamic Associations of Burkina (FAIB) urged Friday evening, all preachers to promote “a discourse free from violence, hatred and sectarianism”.
The College of Ulemas and the Presidium of the Federation of Islamic Associations of Burkina (FAIB) condemned, yesterday Friday evening, in a statement to the press, “the emergence of dangerous deviations in religious discourse” which, according to them, “threaten the unity of the community and fuel divisions (fitna) incompatible with the principles of our faith.”
“Faced with the major challenges facing our community and the profound social changes that our society is going through, we observe with concern the emergence of dangerous deviations in religious discourse,” regretted this Friday evening the president of the Presidium of the FAIB, Dr Cheick Sidi Mohamed Maiga.
Dr Maiga said that “these deviations threaten the unity of the community and fuel divisions (fitna) incompatible with the princ
iples of our faith.”
He therefore, on behalf of the College of Ulemas and the Presidium of the FAIB, condemned “firmly this negative drift, amplified by social networks, which goes against the fundamental moral values ??of Islam: respect, tolerance, call to wisdom and benevolent exhortation.”
He called on “all preachers, imams and actors engaged in the field of da’wa to promote a discourse free from violence, hatred and sectarianism.”
The FAIB, according to him, “reaffirms that any attack on associations, Islamic personalities or other individuals, whether living or deceased, by insults or attacks on their dignity, is strictly prohibited. Any repeat offense will result in prosecution.”
The President of the Presidium concluded his statement by stating that “a monitoring and vigilance committee has been set up to ensure compliance with these principles and will take appropriate measures against any breach.”
This statement came after a consultation between members of the College of Ulemas and the Presidium
of the Federation of Islamic Associations of Burkina.
