Indian President Droupadi Murmu is on an African tour of Algeria, Mauritania and Malawi, which Indian diplomacy has described as “historic”. The first visit by an Indian president to these three countries, it aims to strengthen economic ties and position India as an alternative to China.

In Algeria, Droupadi Murmu participated in an economic forum with President Tebboune, highlighting the historic friendship between the two nations. New Delhi wants to propose a more transparent and inclusive partnership, particularly in debt management. In 2023, trade between India and Africa amounted to 90 billion euros, far from the 260 billion between Africa and China.
