Houet/Operation Bobo Sanya Sira: The central market cleared of garbage

As part of ‘Operation Bobo Sanya Sira’, the commune of Bobo-Dioulasso organized a sanitation day in order to clean the central market, on Sunday January 7, 2024. This activity is part of the dynamic of the presidential initiative for community development.

Launched on December 20, 2023, ‘Operation Bobo Sanya Sira’ (on the property road) continues through the city of Bobo-Dioulasso. On Sunday January 7, 2024, it was the turn of the large market to get rid of its garbage.

Early in the morning, the population stormed the commercial infrastructure to make it clean.

Organized by the special municipal delegation of Bobo-Dioulasso through the Agency for the Management of Market Equipment and Infrastructure (AGEIM), the operation is part of component 2 of the presidential initiative for community development.

The third vice-president of the special municipal delegation of Bobo-Dioulasso, representing the president of the said delegation, Mariam Sanou, welcomed the popular mobilization of this operation to clean
up the central market.

‘Health and hygiene must be everyone’s fight, each of us is called to work to guarantee a healthy and clean living environment,’ she said.

For Ms. Sanou, this initiative must be sustained, because it allows us to have a healthy and clean living environment. Anything that will help, said Mariam Sanou, to prevent possible diseases, especially the dengue epidemic.

‘We ask traders to make it a habit and keep our places of work, service and family life clean on a daily basis,’ said the third vice-president.

For the president of the special delegation of district No. 1, Siaka Kiénou where the central market is located, this sanitation activity is in line with the activities of his district.

Listening to him, a lot of goods are sold on the market. This is why it needs to be sanitized.

‘Knowing the importance of the market and also knowing what is sold in the market, we need to clean up the environment to allow traders to carry out their activities peacefully and also allow customers to h
ave access to good quality products and healthy,’ he left Mr. Kiénou.

For him, this clean day allows us to fight indirectly against dengue fever.

The general director of AGEIM, Paul Zongo, indicated that the initiative aims to bring ownership and improve the working environment for traders.

According to him, this operation will make it possible to clean inaccessible places, particularly under roofs and hidden boxes.

‘The merchants were closely associated through their representative for the success of this operation. We are mobilized and we therefore invite them to integrate this practice into their daily lives,’ underlined Paul Zongo.

The general delegate of the central market traders, Ibrahim Sanogo, for his part, welcomed this initiative which will allow the market to get rid of waste.

For him, it was necessary, because there is a lot of garbage in the market, ‘We all know that garbage is dangerous for our business, because it can cause fires,’ he said.

While thanking the municipal authorities for t
his initiative, Mr. Sanogo hoped that it would continue.

‘We want to ask them if they can carry out such an activity every six months in the market in order to get rid of waste that could cause us problems,’ insisted the general delegate of Traders.
