Ouagadougou: The Association of Young Leaders of Hauts Bassins (AJLD/HBS), held on Saturday January 27, 2024 in Bobo-Dioulasso, an awareness workshop for the benefit of media actors, social organizations civil society (CSO) , activists and students, under the theme ‘Media education in times of crisis’.

Raising awareness and strengthening the capacity of media actors, civil society organizations (CSOs), activists, and students for the dissemination of information is the ambition of the Association of Young Leaders of Hauts Bassins (AJLD/HBS).

She, in fact, organized a workshop for their benefit under the theme ‘Media education in times of crisis’, on Saturday January 27, 2024 in Bobo-Dioulasso.

According to the president of the AJLD/HBS, Barthélemy Birba, social media have made fact-checking more complex and called into question trust in the content of news broadcast in traditional media.

It is with this observation that his association organized this workshop in order to raise awareness and strengthen the
capacity of media actors, CSOs, activists, and students for the dissemination of information.

‘We have observed for some time that social networks are poorly exploited. Given the current situation in our country, it was time to take initiatives in order to be able to regulate all those who intervene on social networks,’ he indicated.

For the first deputy prosecutor of Faso, at the Bobo-Dioulasso High Court, Pierre Ouédraogo, it is a question of educating media men and all people who occupy the media scene, especially in these times of crises.

To do this, the communication focused essentially on freedom of the press, the content, the scope, the limits and the restrictions also which are provided for in times of peace, but also in times of crisis.

According to him, in terms of communication we must take into account the crisis that the country has been experiencing for several years so as not to expose it further.

‘The idea is to give what exists as rights and freedoms and also to provide information on th
e different restrictions and the different sanctions reserved for breaches to allow everyone to have a naturally responsible expression in the media,’ suggested Pierre Ouédraogo.

According to him, everyone must be able to have their opinion in order to express themselves through the press, but it is also necessary to be responsible so as not to expose themselves to sanctions.
