The Emergency Medical Assistance Service (SAMU), in partnership with the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), organized from October 21 to 25, 2024 in Ouagadougou, a training in emergency medicine for 30 health personnel from Burkina Faso, with the aim of providing better care to patients in emergency situations linked to disasters or other situations.

This training, which ended on Friday afternoon, brought together participants from various backgrounds, including general practitioners, emergency physicians, emergency nurses, anesthetists, as well as state-registered nurses.

They acquired new knowledge on, among other things, the management of health care services in emergency situations and resuscitation, through presentations, practical workshops, role plays and simulation exercises.

According to the Director of Sectoral Studies and Statistics (DGESS) of the Ministry of Health, Wenceslas Koïta, this training session is part of the operationalization of primary transport and the capacity bu
ilding of stakeholders working in this area.

For him, this upgrade will improve the management of emergencies in health facilities.

‘You have tackled complex topics, acquired new skills and deepened your knowledge in a field where every minute counts,’ he told attendees.

The DGESS welcomed the Turkish agency TIKA for this training which will contribute to improving the quality of care and reducing mortality linked to emergencies in hospitals.

Mr. Koïta also reaffirmed his ministry’s commitment to continuing collaboration with the Turkish agency.

“We are determined to strengthen this partnership and develop new projects for the benefit of our populations,” he said.

For Mirzet Muezzinoglu, one of the trainers, human resource is a key factor in all sectors of activity. He therefore congratulated the Ministry in charge of health for strengthening the capacities of health workers.

According to the trainer, the participants have carefully followed all the modules and are now ready for any emergency response
related to disasters or any other factor.

He also indicated that in addition to health, the TIKA agency operates in the sectors of education, agriculture and infrastructure.

With more than 30,000 projects completed across the world, the agency is present in 62 countries, Mirzet Muezzinoglu said.

For the general practitioner in the emergency department of the Yalgado Ouédraogo University Hospital Center, Dr. Eudoxie Soma, the training was very instructive.

“The knowledge acquired during this session will allow us to be responsive and, above all, to take the right actions in the event of a disaster or emergency,” she said.
