Free vaccination campaign for 8 million animals in Niger


Niger has launched an annual 2023-2024 free vaccination campaign for its large livestock, in Toudouni (551 km northeast of Niamey) in the Tahoua region renowned for its livestock. abundant.

The vaccination campaign was officially launched on Nigerien soil by the Secretary General of the Tahoua governorate, Harouna Assakalé, accompanied by the Prefect of the Tahoua department, and will concern more than 8 million targeted animals out of a total herd of 12,714,700. counts Niger, indicates the Niger Press Agency.

The objective is to vaccinate 2,920,221 cattle against contagious bovine pleuropneumonia (CBPP), 4,969,510 small ruminants against peste des petits ruminants (PPR) and 150,449 camels against camel pasteurellosis.

‘To achieve its objectives, the Regional Directorate of Livestock (DREL) of Tahoua has mobilized 137 teams for 1,401 centers throughout the region,’ specifies the ANP.

For the Secretary General of the Tahoua governorate, this campaign to combat the main epizootic diseases will help protect
the pastoral sector by protecting breeders from economic losses due to diseases which sometimes ruin entire families.

Mr. Assakalé also launched an appeal to all stakeholders in general and to customary chiefs, breeder associations, breeders and field executives in particular to mobilize as one in order to immunize all those targeted.

This vaccination campaign has already been symbolically and jointly launched by Niger and Chad on November 23 in Liwa, Chad.
