Ouagadougou: The rebellious Burkinabè Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 clubs have decided to suspend their boycott of the activities of the Burkinabè Football Federation (FBF), in a press release received by the AIB.

‘We have made the decision to end our boycott of FBF activities and to resume our participation in competitions from today, April 5, 2024,’ announced the press release from the L1 and L2 clubs, signed by their spokesperson. Koudougou David Yaméogo, also president of Faso athletic club (FAC, L2).

The rebellious clubs justify this act by the fact that ‘it seemed necessary to us to take strong measures to save the sporting season and our football from the specter of a blank year whose consequences would be incalculable’.

It was at the end of a meeting held simultaneously in Ouagadougou and Bobo-Dioulasso on April 2 that this press release was produced. These clubs want ‘reasonable time to be given to players so that they return to competition with the least risk of injury’.

A standoff began between the Burki
nabè Football Federation and certain Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 clubs. The clubs demanded reimbursement of the 140 million that the Burkinabè football umbrella had cut (the year exceeded) with the agreement from the Ministry of Sports and the clubs, to organize small category championships. The organization of these championships having experienced a delay, the clubs asked for this money to be returned to them. The FBF having refused, mentioned that it could hold these competitions.

The competitions which had been suspended were blocked on the 19th day of Ligue 1, on the 11th day of Ligue 2 and in the 32nd finals of the Coupe du Faso.
