Electricity supply, SIAEL and the reduction in Hajj costs, make the headlines of the day


Ouagadougou: Today’s publications echo the drop in the cost of Hajj 2024, the official opening of the 7th edition of the International Exhibition of Agriculture, Environment and Livestock (SIAEL) and of the collaboration of AES countries for solar supply.

‘Energy sovereignty in the AES space: national electricity companies strengthen their collaboration’, headlines the state daily Sidwaya.

This newspaper informs that the first consultation meeting of electricity companies from the countries of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), began this Tuesday, February 20 in Ouagadougou.

‘Placed under the theme: what strategies to secure the supply of electrical energy to the AES countries, the objectives of this meeting is to formulate recommendations in terms of strategies to the decision-makers of the three countries’, adds the private daily Le Country.

For L’Observateur Paalga, this 72-hour strategic discussion meeting brought together experts in electricity production, transport and marketing.

This newspaper informs that the 7th edition of the International Exhibition of Agriculture, Environment and Livestock (SIAEL) is being held from February 20 to 27, 2024 in the commune of Komsilga under the theme: ‘Impact of the security crisis on the agro-sylvo-pastoral sector: state of the art and prospects’.

‘This event brings together producers from the rural world of Burkina Faso, and elsewhere, notably Mali, the guest country of honor this year,’ continues the dean of private daily newspapers.

Sidwaya adds that SIAEL aims, according to its general commissioner, Jean Victor Ouédraogo, to accelerate the process of professionalization of actors in the rural world by giving visibility to the different value chains.

The private daily informs that following a press release made pu
blic on February 5, 2024 where the Ministry in charge of Religion set the cost of the 2024 Hajj per pilgrim at 3,276,500 FCFA, consultations were initiated and made it possible to review the cost at the drop.

Sidwaya also informs that according to a press release from the Ministry in charge of Territorial Administration, these consultations resulted in a reduction in the cost of Hajj 2024 by 50,000 FCFA, or now at 3,226,500 FCFA not including the price of the sheep which remains at the burden of the pilgrim.

Furthermore, L’Observateur Paalga underlines that the State invites those responsible for travel agencies to reimburse the difference of 50,000 FCFA to all pilgrims who have already paid the initial amount.
