The ministries in charge of education celebrated on Thursday, in a delayed manner, World Teachers’ Day, during which 362 agents were decorated for the quality of their work in training pupils and students, despite the context of insecurity in several localities of the country.

Six officers and 356 knights, all of the Order of Academic Palms. These are the workers who received, on Thursday, October 24, 2024, the recognition of the Nation for their selflessness in the training and supervision of pupils and students.

According to the Minister in charge of Higher Education, Professor Adjima Thiombiano, despite the insecurity, many teachers continue to take up the challenges, and some have paid with their lives so that Burkina Faso can move forward.

To this end, he paid a vibrant tribute to all the actors in the education system for their contribution to the promotion of quality education.

According to Minister Thiombiano, this decoration is an invitation to greater commitment and increased resilience for a m
ore efficient education system.

‘Teachers, as builders of the future, you bear an immense responsibility: that of being the guardians of hope and the architects of a united Burkina Faso,’ he declared to them.

For him, in the context of insecurity that Burkina Faso is experiencing, education is the best bulwark, because it allows us to propose endogenous development solutions for the affirmation of our sovereignty.

The theme for World Teachers’ Day 2024 is: ‘Valuing Teachers’ Voices: Towards a New Social Contract for Education.’

The minister argued that this day highlights the role of the teacher in the education and training of youth for a more responsible society.

Hence the reorganization of the ministries in charge of education for a global reform of our educational system, suggested Professor Thiombiano.

It should be noted that the decoration ceremony was also attended by the ministers responsible for Foreign Affairs and Digital Transition.

The last ministerial reshuffle, which took place on June 25
, 2024, dedicated three ministries to education.

These are the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, the Ministry of Basic Education, Literacy and Promotion of National Languages, and the Ministry of Secondary Education, Vocational and Technical Training.

These ministries are headed respectively by Professor Adjima Thiombiano, Jacques Sosthène Dingara and Dr Boubacar Savadogo.
