ECOWAS congratulates future Senegalese President, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, on his electoral victory

Ouagadougou: The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) sent, on Tuesday, a message of congratulations to Bassirou Diomaye Faye for his election ‘to the high office of President of the Republic of Senegal,’ reports the Senegalese Press Agency.

‘On behalf of the ECOWAS institutions, I have the honor to express to you my sincere congratulations on your election to the high office of President of the Republic of Senegal,’ writes the president of the organization’s Commission in a letter. addressed to the announced winner of the Senegalese presidential election on Sunday.

Dr. Omar Alieu Touray at the same time praised the posture of the Senegalese people and republican institutions and praised the serenity and maturity in which the presidential election took place, deemed free, transparent and peaceful.

The first trends of Sunday’s presidential election give a large lead to candidate Bassirou Diomaye Faye, pending the official proclamation of the results, at the latest at midnight on the Friday following the election, i.e. March 29. The candidate of the outgoing majority, Amadou Ba, conceded defeat, while the final results will be proclaimed by the Constitutional Council from April 3.

A total of 7,371,890 Senegalese voters were called to the polls to elect Macky Sall’s successor.

Nineteen candidates, including one woman, were in the running for this presidential election, the participation rate of which exceeds 50 percent, according to the authorities in charge of its organization.
