Doulougou “celebrates” its new church

The parish of Saint Joseph Artisan de Kombissiri celebrated its patronal feast, coupled with the blessing of the new chapel of Doulougou, on Sunday May 7, 2023 in Doulougou. The celebration of the Mass was presided over by the Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Ouagadougou, Father Alfred Ouédraogo.

Doulougou, a rural town located about twenty kilometers west of Kombissiri, experienced a great festive atmosphere this Sunday, May 7, 2023. And for good reason, the parish of Saint Joseph Artisan de Kombissiri relocated the celebration of its patronal feast there. which coincided with the blessing of the chapel of said newly built city.

The celebration of the Mass was presided over by the Vicar General, Father Alfred Ouédraogo delegated by the Metropolitan Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Ouagadougou, Cardinal Philippe Ouédraogo.

The celebration began with the entrance procession followed by the handing over of the keys of the new church to the parish priest of Saint Joseph Artisan de Kombissiri, Father Ermane Ouédraogo, who opened it.

The blessing of the church by the Vicar General, the procession of offerings and the songs of praise and thanksgiving marked the highlights of this celebration.

During his homily, Father Alfred Ouédraogo invited the many Catholic faithful of the parish present at Mass, to be living stones in the building of the Church Family of GOD and to work for a laity committed to image of the donor, a laywoman who did not skimp on the means to build this church.

Indeed, the new chapel of Doulougou which has been blessed is the gift of a faithful, Mrs. Edwige Ilboudo/Diallo, founder of the Saint Edwige Institute in Ouagadougou whose husband is a native of Doulougou.

The church built and equipped at more than 100,600,000 FCFA according to the donor, is the fulfillment of a promise made to the Catholic community of Doulougou. A gesture highly welcomed by the Cardinal’s delegate, the parish priest of Kombissiri and the spokesperson for the Catholic community of Doulougou, a very large number of outings for the occasion. This event recorded the presence of about twenty priests, many monks and nuns from different parishes, the Muslim community of Doulougou, provincial administrative authorities of Bazèga, customary authorities, and several personalities from different localities.

On the sidelines of the celebration of the parish feast, several sports, cultural and religious activities were organized the previous days, including a prayer vigil, a musical concert with Sister Anne Marie Kaboré and other artists.

The final of the parish priest’s cup of Kombissiri won by the Kombissiri team against that of Gana by the score of 1 goal to 0 put an end to sports activities.
