Ouagadougou: The World Health Organization, through its representation of Burkina, delivered on Wednesday biomedical equipment and reagents worth more than 194 million FCFA to the Ministry of Health to contribute to the fight against dengue fever.
For the representative of the WHO Resident Representative in Burkina, Dr Hien Clotaire, the donation consists of dengue diagnostic equipment, biomedical and laboratory equipment, and drugs for the treatment of patients, all amounting to 194,158,574 CFA francs.
With the dengue screening test kits, this equipment will make it possible, according to Mr. Hien, to screen for the disease in health facilities where there are no laboratories.
He specified that biomedical equipment, for its part, facilitates the blood diagnosis of dengue fever in large laboratories.
According to him, the acquisition of equipment is part of a partnership between the Ministry of Health and his organization.
So because of the rainy season which is beginning, it was a good idea to strengthe
n the ministry’s capacities to prepare for and respond to a possible dengue epidemic, he said.
According to the Secretary General of the Ministry of Health, Dr Issa Ouédraogo in 2023, Burkina Faso faced a major dengue epidemic with many deaths.
This situation was explained by the relatively late diagnosis of the disease and the inadequacy of health care structures.
The batch of equipment received this Wednesday, June 26, 2024, corrects this state of affairs by increasing the operational capacities of the ministry in the management and treatment of dengue.
