Construction of a nuclear power plant in Burkina Faso: things are becoming clearer in Russia

Ouagadougou: The Burkinabè Minister in charge of Energy Yacouba Zabré Gouba and the Russian company ROSATOM will initial this Wednesday evening, in Saint Petersburg, the road map and documents relating to the memorandum of understanding for the construction of a nuclear power plant in Burkina Faso, the AIB has learned.

As a prelude to this signing, the Director General of Energy, Dr Alidou Koutou and the Technical Advisor in charge of monitoring SONABEL’s energy policy, Souleymane Sawadogo had a meeting with the ROSATOM Company, on Wednesday June 5, 2024 at Saint Petersburg, Russia.

According to the Communications Directorate of the Ministry of Energy, the session ensured that the two parties reached a convergence of views on the process leading to the effective construction of the nuclear power plant that the Land of Integrity Men impatiently waiting.

‘The challenge is to work to achieve energy sovereignty for the development of Burkina Faso,’ specifies the same source.

The memorandum of understanding to
be signed includes aspects such as education and training of personnel for the needs of the nuclear energy industry and related sectors.

There is also public awareness of the benefits of nuclear technologies and energy through media and internet resources, assessment and development of nuclear infrastructure.
