Two people died yesterday Friday, following the resurgence of the land conflict between the villages of Sitiéna and Djongolo in the commune of Banfora, AIB learned.

For almost a decade, the populations of Sitiéna and Djongolo have been fighting over agricultural land.

Despite consultations and mediations, each camp remained stuck to its position.

The case is pending in court but everyone has been banned from using the land.

On Friday afternoon, clashes broke out because each side suspected the other of wanting to exploit the disputed land.

Thanks to the prompt response of the police, the consequences were limited but one person lost his life on the spot and another succumbed to his injuries late at night at the Banfora CHR, the AIB learned.

As a reminder, in June 2019, four people were killed and several others injured, due to the same conflict.
