Cascades: Media actors equipped with the prevention and management of community conflicts

_: The Cascades regional communications and media directorate organized on Monday March 25, 2024, a training session for the benefit of media women and men in the Cascades region under the theme: ‘Role of the media in the management and prevention of community conflicts.

This training session brought together 20 journalists and local radio presenters from the Cascades region.

According to the Cascades Regional Director of Communication and Media, Ousmane TRAORE, this meeting aims to analyze the vital role of media and communication in the prevention and management of community conflicts, and explore ways to strengthen this role in the peacebuilding efforts. It is intended to be a contribution of media men and women to the promotion and guarantee of peace and social cohesion in the region, especially information management in times of crisis. He added.

During this workshop, participants were informed by two communications. The first was delivered by the Regional Director in charge of human rights, Ibrahim T
RAORE, and focused on the prevention and management of conflicts in the Cascades region. The points included are among others: The inventory of community conflicts in the region, the types of community conflicts, the consequences, the management mechanisms and especially the difficulties encountered in the management of said conflicts in the region. In this module, participants learned how to better understand a conflict to better prevent it and how to resolve a conflict without amplifying it.

On the subject, Ibrahim TRAORE invited participants to always control and verify information in times of crisis before its dissemination.

The second communication concerned ‘The economic profitability of the media in the context of a security crisis. In delivering this module, the Regional Director in charge of communication, Ousmane TRAORE, indicated that the men and women of the media must organize themselves, must be united and united, they must reach out to the decentralized services of the state, institutions wit
h activity proposals. They should not wait for these structures to come to them with their activities, he added.
