CAN2023: Morocco coach Walid Regraguy receives 4-match suspension, 2 of which are suspended (CAF verdict)


Morocco Atlas Lions coach Walid Regraguy received a 4-match suspension, including 2 suspended, following his altercation with DR Congo Leopards captain Chancel Mbemba, we learned on Wednesday from the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Here is the full verdict.

‘The CAF Disciplinary Jury has delivered its verdict in the case involving the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (‘FRMF’) and the Congolese Federation of Football Association (‘FECOFA’) following the incidents that occurred after the match between Morocco and the Democratic Republic of Congo’ announced the CAF communications director.

The match which took place on Sunday January 21, 2024 counted for the ninth day of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Côte d’Ivoire 2023.

The CAF Disciplinary Jury found the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, the Congolese Football Federation and the coach Mr. Walid Regragui guilty of separate charges and ruled as follows:

1. A fine of 20,000 USD imposed on the Royal Moroccan Football Federation

2.
A fine of 20,000 USD imposed on the Congolese Football Federation

3. Mr. Walid Regragui is suspended for four (4) matches.

4. Two of these matches are suspended over a period of one (1) year

5. A fine of 5,000 USD imposed on Mr. Walid Regragui

6. A fine of 10,000 USD imposed on the Royal Moroccan Football Federation for the use of smoke bombs by its supporters during the match. Of this amount, USD 5,000 is suspended.

Decisions are enforceable upon expiry of the appeal period in accordance with the CAF Disciplinary Code’
