CAN 2024 widely commented on by Burkinabè newspapers

Ouagadougou: This Friday’s publications largely comment on the participation of the Burkina Stallions in the 34th African Cup of Nations (CAN) which begins tomorrow Saturday in Ivory Coast.

‘CAN 2023: It’s time, Mr. Velud,’ reads the front page of the state daily Sidwaya.

The public daily reports that the Ivorian CAN opens this Saturday, January 13, 2024 at the Alassane-Ouattara stadium in Ebimpé, with 24 teams, each more motivated than the other to conquer the continental grail. Coach Hubert Velud and his team have very big ambitions for this 34th CAN, adds this daily.

‘Participation of the Stallions in the CAN COTE D’IVOIRE 2023, The Burkinabè between hopes and doubts’, headlines the front page of the private newspaper Le Pays.

This daily carried its microphone around to gather the opinions of the Burkinabè on the chance of the national team to win this 34th CAN for their first time in their history.

According to the same daily, if some have hope that the Stallions are one of the favorite teams of the
34th edition of the CAN because the signals are green, others on the other hand remain doubtful in view of the latest performances of the colts of Hubert Velud during the FIFA days.

‘The Stallions at CAN 2023: Bring us this cup back to Faso’, headlines the dean of private daily newspapers, L’Observateur Paalga.

According to this daily, the CAN returns to the banks of the Ebrié after 40 years and is intended to be very sweet after that of 1984, which saw the victory of the indomitable lions of Cameroon.

Still according to the same newspaper, among the teams which can make their little hole, there is that of Burkina Faso. ‘Whether we like it or not, the Stallions have a track record that allows them to claim the final coronation. Finalist in 2013, twice semi-finalist in 2017 and 2021, our national eleven has, in fact, arguments to put forward in neighboring Ivory Coast,’ concludes L’Observateur Paalga.
