The Summer Olympic Games in Paris have ended after 17 days of competition among the world’s best athletes. Cameroon’s six representatives return without a medal.

The closing ceremony took place on Sunday, August 11, at the Stade de France marking the end of this year’s event.

Cameroon’s best performance in Paris came from Emmanuel Esseme who reached the 100m semi-finals, and Linda Angounou who had a stunning performance in the 400m hurdles despite exiting in the first round. The delegation from Yaounde participated in four disciplines; athletics, table tennis, swimming, and judo.

The best performance by an African country came from Kenya. The East African nation finished with 11 medals (4 gold, 2 silver, and 5 bronze). The Kenyans occupy the 17th position on the medal table led by USA with 126 medals (40 gold, 44 silver, and 42 bronze).

Hosts France finished 5th overall with 64 medals (16 in gold). Los Angeles will host the next Summer Games in 2028. The city will be organising the Olympics for the third
time after the 1932 and 1984 editions.
