Burkina: ‘The AES is more than viable’, President Traoré

The Alliance of Sahel States (AES) is ‘more than viable,’ Burkinabe head of state Ibrahim Traoré assured Tuesday, commenting on the withdrawal of his country, Mali and Niger from ECOWAS.

‘You know very well that the AES is more than viable,’ said Captain Ibrahim Traoré on Tuesday to journalist Alain Foka.

Ibrahim Traoré criticized certain postulates according to which our States are not capable of developing without the assistance of others.

‘You know for a long time, we have kept our people in a certain philosophy always tending to make us believe that we can do nothing without others,’ he maintained.

‘When you take the AES in terms of population, in terms of surface area, we are very good. In terms of production normally, the AES states should not import anything regarding agricultural products. » proclaimed Captain Traoré.

Speaking of natural resources, Ibrahim Traoré says he does not envy others.

‘We are shouting everywhere that Africans are dying of hunger and thirst and projects are being invente
d here and there to give us, for example, drinking water. The AES is a large reserve of groundwater and even surface water. In terms of mineral resources, we have nothing to envy of anyone. In nature, we have products like shea, it is a natural wealth. We didn’t plant it. It was God who gave it to us,’ reassured Ibrahim Traoré.

According to the President of the Transition, we must work to raise awareness.

‘Our mission is to raise awareness. Young people need to realize what is in their homes. In such an organization you must first realize its strengths, weigh its weaknesses and at the end of this analysis you can decide. The AES is very viable,’ he insisted.

Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso, in a joint press release, decided this Sunday, January 28, 2024 to leave the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), we recall.

They have been united since September 16, 2023 in the Alliance of Sahel States.
