Burkina: Saint Dominique Catholic University plans to open a hospital center in 2024

Ouagadougou, The Saint Dominic University of West Africa (USDAO) laid on Saturday the first stone of its future University Hospital Center (CHU) in Gana in the commune of Doulougou, Bazèga province, in the presence of Prime Minister Me Apollinaire Kyelem de Tambèla. First aid is expected in 2024.

“The first phase of the project is to make everything available to enable the operation of a hospital at a minimum. That is to say maternal and child health, general medicine, laboratory and hospital pharmacy, we are targeting 2024 for the availability of these works,” declared the USDAO Project Coordinator, Dr. André Savadogo.

The Saint Martin de Porres University Hospital Center (CHU) of the Saint Dominic University of West Africa (USDAO), according to Dr. Savadogo; will be built gradually with the integration of new specialties over a period of 5 years.

He specified that the CHU has a total cost of 46 billion FCFA is planned on an area of 10 hectares expandable to another 10 hectares, and will have a total capacity of 200 beds.

For the president of the ceremony, the head of government, Apollinaire Joachimson Kyélèm de Tambèla, this project is at the heart of the government’s ambition.

He added that the CHU which will be created in the Doulougou department will complement the Manga CHU which will open soon and offer much more adapted and much more qualified care.

He also reiterated the government’s support in supporting the process of building university and health complexes but also the establishment of the economic and scientific growth pole which includes other components.

“The construction of this hospital is part of the Higher Training of Health personnel,” declared for her part Madam Governor of the South Center Yvette Nacoulma.

However, she called on the government to support the asphalting of the Kombissiri-Gana, Doulougou-Ipelecé axis which, according to her, will allow economic development of the area.

Cardinal Philippe Ouédraogo present at the ceremony blessed the first stone of the University Hospital laid in Gana.

As a reminder, USDAO opened these doors in 2018 with 37 learners.

For the 2022-2023 academic year, it had a workforce of 764 learners in training units which are nursing and hospital sciences, sciences and technologies and legal, political and administrative sciences.
