Burkina: New high school graduates called to obtain information from reliable sources for their university orientation

Ouagadougou: The ministry in charge of higher education, through its technical services, is the only department authorized to inform and guide new baccalaureate graduates in their university courses, recalled Minister Adjima Thiombiano, Tuesday in Ouagadougou.

‘You have been entitled to a certain number of initiatives which are similar to the National Information and Orientation Week, which allow us to advise and guide you. This is a good thing. However, I would like to point out that the ministry remains the sole guarantor of all this information and all these guidelines,’ declared the minister.

Professor Adjima Thiombiano, who spoke this Tuesday July 9, 2024 during the opening ceremony of the post-baccalaureate National Information and Orientation Week (SIO), invited students to approach its technical services to benefit from appropriate advice on university training courses and offers.

The technical services mentioned are, according to the minister, the General Directorate of University Orientation Advi
ce and Scholarships (DGCOB), the National Fund for Education (FONER) and research, the National Center for University Works (CENOU) and the General Directorate of Higher Education (DGESup) with the Campus Faso platform.

For him, the DGCOB, initiator of this SIO, is responsible for informing, guiding and granting scholarships to students.

‘There is the DGESup within which Campus Faso is housed, which will guide you taking into account a certain number of criteria. So please make this structure your home. You have to go there and get all the information to have the chance of a successful orientation,’ said the first head of the department, addressing the new high school graduates and the parents mobilized for the occasion.

FONER will provide information on the conditions of the aid and the loan. The CENOU, for its part, takes care of everything relating to university catering and accommodation, informed Professor Thiombiano.

The minister also invited future students to visit the exhibition stands of major p
ublic and private schools and universities, present on the site of the Ouagadougou International Exhibition (SIAO) in order to have a range of information for their university orientation .

According to the organizers, in 2023, 41 higher education establishments including 14 from the public, 64 from the private and 3 from abroad took part in the activity.

Sources inform that the number of visitors was estimated at 11,500 people per day. This year, 86 higher education establishments are expected with around 12,000 visitors each day.

The 9th edition of the SIO is scheduled to end on July 13.
