Ouagadougou: The Association of Women in the Mining Sector of Burkina Faso (AFEMIB), organized on Wednesday a training workshop on the management of environmental and social risks and impacts linked to mining under the gender angle, for the benefit of these members.

In a gender-based approach, AFEMIB has equipped its members with the perspectives of managing environmental and social risks and impacts of industrial or artisanal mining.

‘This activity aims to provide the necessary basics to our members to enable them to carry out, in turn, awareness activities for the benefits of women who work in industrial or artisanal mining sites,’ declared the AFEMIB Secretary. , Annonciata Thiombiano.

According to the Secretary General of the association, this training which takes place after the visit to artisanal and modern mines, is part of the celebration of the international day of women in the mining sector which is held every June 15 of ‘year.

This training, which will be handled in the form of a workshop, will
be structured around three sequences, indicated the consultant, Michel Bamogo.

Participants will first understand the environmental and social risks and impacts of mining projects, analyze the consequences of these risks before determining whether the man or the woman is more impacted.

The last point will consist of proposing solutions to reduce environmental and social impacts, both for men and women, explained Mr. Yaméogo.

The association of women in the mining sector of Burkina was born from the desire of pioneering women to take up a certain number of challenges for the development of women who work in the sector in particular and of rural or urban women impacted by mining projects in general.

To do this, it proceeds through awareness-raising/training and the realization of mini-projects.

It was officially recognized by the Burkinabe state in 2004.
