Burkina launches a prize to promote defense and security research

Ouagadougou: Burkina Faso has launched a prize to encourage researchers, particularly young researchers, to invest in subjects related to defense, security and peace, the AIB learned from security source.

The National Center for Strategic Studies (CNES) headed by the former Minister of Defense, General Aimé Barthelemy Simporé, launched the first edition of the Grand Prix de la recherche on the sidelines of the 2024 strategic research forum, placed under the theme: ‘The Sahel in global security’, Thursday January 25, 2024, in Ouagadougou.

The Grand Prize includes a ‘senior prize’ rewarding established researchers and a ‘junior prize’ which encourages beginning researchers, starting with students at the end of their master’s cycle or equivalent.

For this first edition of the prize, only Burkinabè and other nationals working in a Burkinabè university, aged 35 and who have carried out research in the fields of defense, security and/or peace, are eligible. Candidates must not have been registered under a specia
l regime.

‘We are working to ensure that CNES is fully an experience center for strategic thinking and actions, which can extend beyond Burkina Faso,’ indicated the Director General of the Center, Barthelemy Simporé.

According to him, scientific and strategic research for a developing country is the best way to enable it to take control of its destiny.

Since the end of 2022, and as part of the fight against terrorism, Burkina Faso has been working to equip itself with its own human, material and financial resources for its defense and freedom from imperialist powers.
