Ouagadougou: While many taxi drivers and transporters use butane gas instead of fuel, the National Anti-Fraud Coordination (CNLF) reminded their drivers on Tuesday that gas bottles from 1 to 12.5 kg, subsidized by the State, are exclusively reserved for the use of households residing in Burkina Faso territory.
During an exchange and awareness meeting initiated Tuesday in Ouagadougou with taxi drivers and workers in the transport sector, the National Anti-Fraud Coordination (CNLF) indicated that gas bottles from 1 to 12.5 kg are subsidized only for the benefit of households residing in Burkina.
According to the national anti-fraud coordinator, Yves Kafando, citing article 3 of joint decree no. 20224-003 of February 6, 2024, listing the elements of the butane gas price structure and setting prices, the cylinders concerned cannot be used for profit in industrial units or exported.
For him, this product is subsidized by the State to relieve the populations. It is strictly reserved for household consumption and
from this point of view, cannot be used for commercial or industrial purposes, explained Yves Kafando.
Through this meeting, ‘we wanted to inform and raise awareness among taxi drivers and transporters so that the destination of these gas cylinders is respected, in accordance with regulatory provisions,’ declared the national anti-fraud coordinator.
According to Mr. Kafando, the CNLF is informed of the use of the product in certain companies but before considering any repressive action on the ground, awareness is the gateway to changing the behavior of offenders.
For his part, the president of the national federation of taxi drivers and workers in the transport sector of Burkina, Omarou Kiéma, welcomed the ‘imprint of courtesy’ approach of the CNLF.
Mr. Kiéma indicated that the message got through and that he was committed to being the ambassador of the National Coordination to his colleagues for compliance with the provisions of the decree of February 6, 2024.
