Ouagadougou: Seventeen doctoral students submitted their work on Tuesday to researchers from the Institute of Society Sciences (INSS) in order to perfect it before the next defenses.

The 4th edition of the doctoral students’ day took place on Tuesday July 16, 2024 at the Institute of Society Sciences (INSS) in Ouagadougou. According to the director of the INSS, Dr Aoua Carole Bambara/Congo, the doctoral students’ day is a setting where seniors take a critical look at the work of doctoral students with a view to evaluating and improving their productions.

Although doctoral students have research directors, it is not a question of supervisors redirecting the work already done, but simply of supporting them to perfect their research, indicated the director. She also confided that the supervision takes into account the level of the students. Thus, for those in the first year of the thesis, the scientific committee will look at the research protocols, the methodology, the survey sheets and the field work.

‘For
those who are in the second year of their thesis, we will see if they have taken into account the criticisms of last year and also appreciate the evolution of the work,’ said Dr Aoua Carole Bambara/Congo. Ms. Bambara maintained that with the doctoral students in the finalization phase of their theses, the scientific committee will provide guidance to prepare their final documents and the presentation for the defense.

It should be noted that this 4th edition of the doctoral students’ day was held under the theme: “Doctoral research in times of crisis”. It brought together doctoral students from the Institute of Society Sciences and other universities in Burkina.
