Burkina: Commander Mahamadi Belém ordered pick-ups to help mutineers, military prosecutor

Ouagadougou: The former DAF of the ANR, Commander Mahamadi Belém was planning a series of mutinies in September 2023 and had even ordered pick-ups before his project was revealed to the gendarmerie, the Military Court said on Saturday.

According to the military prosecutor, Captain Ahmed Ferdinand Sountoura, Warrant Officer Mahamadi Al-Bassiri Ousmane Sanfo, Commander Mahamady Belèm and other soldiers and civilians are being prosecuted in a case of inciting mutiny in several military barracks with the aim of undermine the institutions of the Republic.

To achieve their objective, indicated the court, the adjutant Sanfo in complicity with the civilian Jules Bisyandé, were responsible for identifying the barracks deemed favorable.

This is how the adjutant targeted the central grouping of the armies and the Sangoulé Lamizana camp where he held several meetings with soldiers whom he considers favorable to their project or frustrated by the regime of President Ibrahim Traoré.

of the National Intelligence Agency (ANR) whose role was to mobilize logistical resources, had ordered pick-ups with a local dealer.

According to the magistrate, the group will be denounced by one of the soldiers approached, to the Ouagadougou gendarmerie research brigade on September 21, 2023.

The judicial investigation and information which were respectively opened made it possible to indict and place Warrant Officer Mahamady Sanfo under arrest, explained Captain Sountoura.

He is being prosecuted for acts of military plots, violation of instructions and criminal association.

As for Commander Mahamady Belèm and Jules Bisyandé, on the run, arrest warrants have been issued against them.
