Ouagadougou: The Burkinabe government launched on Saturday work to widen and modernize national road No. 2 (RN2) with a distance of 16 km, with a view to streamlining road traffic and ensure the safety of users.

The Prime Minister, Dr Apollinaire Joachinsom Kyélem de Tambèla, officially launched on Saturday June 15, 2024 in Ouagadougou, the widening and modernization work of national road no. 2 (RN2- Ouagadougou-Ouahigouya) at the northern exit of the city.

With a total cost of 68 billion 438 billion 868 thousand 634 with an execution time of 3 years, this project was financed by the Burkinabe government and Vista Bank. It will be executed by the company PFO Africa Burkina Faso SA.

The said project to widen the urban section of the RN2 extends from the youth roundabout to the intersection of the bypass, i.e. a distance of 16 km.

It crosses respectively the districts n° 3 (Tampouy, Kilwin, Rimkièta and Bissighin), n° 8 (Bassinko), n° 9 (Wantionoma and Yagma), the rural commune of Pabré (Sabtenga and that o
f Sourgoubila (Nakamtenga).

The Minister of Infrastructure and Opening Up, Adama Luc Sorgho, who read the speech of the Prime Minister, Dr Kyélem, recalled that this work is part of axis 4 of pillar 3 of the Action Plan for Stabilization and Development ( PA-SD) 2023-2025 adopted by the Government of the Transition.

According to Mr. Sorgho, these widening works are also part of the development strategy of the transport sector, particularly in terms of decongestion, traffic flow and user security.

He also explained that the said works will modernize the urban and interurban road network as well as the development plan of the main arteries of the different cities.

The minister specified that the city of Ouagadougou is facing mobility problems resulting from an insufficient supply of urban transport infrastructure.

‘The level of congestion on national road No. 2 no longer allowed it to effectively ensure road traffic,’ he maintained.

For him, this will involve, among other things, widening the existing roa
d into 2 lanes, building side lanes serving as cycle paths and local traffic, an interchange at the Rimkiéta crossroads, sanitation works and drainage.

‘I invite the managers of the company and the firms awarded the contracts to above all use all their skills and all their technical skills to ensure the execution of the work in accordance with the rules of the art, and within the prescribed deadlines’ , he wished.

Note that the Burkinabè government also launched, yesterday Friday, work to widen and modernize national road No. 1 (RN1-Ouagadougou-FadaN’gourm) at the eastern exit of the city.
