Ouagadougou: 324 people died and 900 others were injured between 2019 and 2024, in accidents involving around sixty public transport companies, firefighters revealed on Thursday.
Around sixty public transport companies caused, from 2019 to June 2024, the death of 324 people and the injury of 900 others, in accidents, declared Thursday the commander of the first company of the National Fire Brigade (BNSP), Didier Bazongo.
Mr. Bazongo was speaking during the presentation of statistics on the involvement of public transport in traffic accidents.
The TSR transport company recorded 61 deaths following 105 accidents it caused, the commander said. It is followed by STAF which has 57 deaths over the same period with 136 accidents. The Rakieta, Saramaya and Sotraco companies recorded 19, 10 and 6 deaths respectively.
The Minister in charge of Security, Mahamadou Sana, invited those responsible for public transport companies to do everything possible to reduce accidents.
He also called on them to respect the regul
ations, in particular the speed limit, to have a first aid box and to regularly carry out technical inspections.
The minister also informed carriers and drivers that road checks will now be permanent.
Hence his invitation to comply in order to be protected from possible inconveniences.
