The Minister in charge of Security, Emile Zerbo, indicated Thursday that 2024 promises to be the year of hope for the total reconquest of Burkinabe territory, by defeating the terrorists.

‘Winning the challenge of peace and security is more than ever a priority for the government and 2024 inevitably promises to be that of hope, hope of the total reconquest of the national territory,’ indicated the minister in charge of territorial administration, and decentralization and security, Emile Zerbo.

The Minister in charge of territorial administration, and decentralization and security, Emile Zerbo, spoke Thursday in Ouagadougou, at the 2024 annual review, of the sectoral framework of Dialogue ‘Defense – Security (CSD-DS)’ .

According to Mr. Zerbo, efforts will therefore continue to enable the Defense and Security Forces and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Fatherland (VDP) to benefit from the necessary conditions to better face security challenges.

For the Minister, this review is being held at a time whe
n major offensives undertaken on the ground by ‘our Defense and Security Forces and by the VDP’, as part of the fight against terrorism, have already made it possible to liberate certain localities in the country, promote the resettlement of internally displaced people and the reopening of certain public services.

According to him, the work of this review will consist of examining the annual report, identifying the main achievements recorded, the difficulties encountered and collecting guidelines for improving performance in 2024.

For him, important achievements have been recorded, notably through the strengthening of the operational capacities of the defense and security forces, the acquisition of operational and strategic equipment, the reinforcement of the workforce and the continuing training of security personnel, the response to the humanitarian crisis and the promotion of social cohesion initiatives and living together.
